In a way, I'm glad I read this one last. It is the absolute heaviest subject matter I've ever read, and many times I had to stop reading because I couldn't handle what was coming next after what I had just read (I'm a big softy).
Basic story: Isabel runs away from home and meets Crystal at the mall. And disappears. Isabel's school friend Kelli comes to her older sister Toni to enlist her and Danny in searching for Isabel. Of course they agree to help her, especially since they have some professional down time. But this is way more than a search for a runaway girl.
While none of the events related actually happened, it's all based in the extremely sad truth of underage prostitution. It's very hard to read at times as things come to light. But realizing all of this is based in truth, that there are huge numbers of young girls (and boys) being forced to sell their bodies to make money for people (and not the kids) is heartbreaking. That there are enough people willing to use these kids for their own gratification is maddening (which is never addressed in the book, but it is definitely part of the problem).
While the characters are true to their established nature, there are a few new insights into some of them. It seems Mr. Grayson (author) has had a good grasp on the characters from the beginning. The writing is raised to a whole new level from the first two books (which were quite good) and continued in subsequent novels. From this point, there seems to be a more intimate involvement with the cases, both for those involved and the readers.
All in all, this is an excellent book. With appropriate warning about the subject matter, I highly recommend this. I absolutely want more Danny Logan and company.

First off, I need to say that I applaud M.D. Grayson for publishing a book with only 3 or 4 or errors that I highlighted -- a rarity these days. Kudos to Grayson and/or his editor a proofreader. It might sound trivial, but trying to read a book that is laden with errors is not only annoying, but it pulls the reader out of the story.
OK, now onto the review of the story.....
The story was engaging & well written. We really cared about the characters & what happened to them, & they were realistically depicted. The dialog seemed natural & things flowed. Reading about Isabel & the other young girls who are lured into sex slavery was gut-wrenching at times; this isn't the first book I've read that explores this theme, but it still hurts to hear about this all-to-common horror. Grayson managed to bring this problem to our attention without getting too preachy.
This was the first book in this series that I've read, & now I want to go back & read the previous books.
I love this series. This was not one of Grayson's best stories and still it was riveting. The plot is not entirely original, but I always wanted to know what happened next. Grayson takes a familiar bogeyman and created a page-turner that has excellent pacing and a few twists. The story deals with a young girl who runs away from home and falls into the hands of a group nvolved in sexual slavery, forced prostitution, and human trafficking. Nevertheless, the book never gets too lurid or graphic, although a few scenes are a bit overly facile. Despite the negatives, the taut, engaging storytelling maintains the reader's interest. This is really a 4.5 star book, but is worth the reading.
Started with the first book in the Danny Logan Mystery series and reading to the latest one, #5. Each one of the books in his series could stand alone, as the author reviews how the characters are interrelated, but do read them all! M. D. Grayson is an excellent author with strong character development skills and believable narrative. I felt as if I could have been on P I Logan’s team, working to solve each one of his cases. I hope Mr. Grayson write more books in this series.
I enjoy the details of police procedural novels. I like the "working together" model between Logan PI and the Seattle Police. I can appreciate that others may be bored with these details, but HEY, it's a police procedural novel. I read #2 first for free, and then went back and bought all the rest for cash.
I'm not a second-guesser...so I just let the stories play out. I had fun reading #1 (which I just bought in paperback for my husband), and I'm looking forward to #'s 4 and 5 on for me.
Isabel's story was as powerful to me as the story that Grisham recently released about the environmental devastation in the Appalachian Mountains called "Gray Mountain."
Grayson's novels are a complex mix of action, relationships, and good old-fashioned police work. I've enjoyed reading them. They are quite a bit like a Grisham novel...
Another great read by Grayson.

Isabel is sixteen years old. She's run away from home because her stepfather has been raping her for years.
Isabel lands at the mall and is befriended by a young girl with red hair. The girl leaves and another lady, this one tall, beautiful and very chic looking approachs Isabel. She tells Isabel her story and listens to Isabels. She then talks Isabel into coming with her to meet her friend Donnie.
So begins one damned fine read.
This one has Isabel, Danny, Toni, Toni's sister Kelli, Donnie Martin, his gang, protitution, the SPD, Detective Nancy Stewart, SWAT, a shootout, death, Isabels Mother, Isobels monster of a stepfather, survival, Danny saving the day, Danny and Toni getting it right and one great read.
Five Stars and then some.
